Litchfield family house photographs, [ca. 1870-1910].

Photographs, 8 x 10 and larger, dating from ca. the late 19th to the early 20th century. Some were taken by B.J. Smith, architectural photographer, Brooklyn. These show interiors of Edward Hubbard Litchfield's house at 2 Montague Terrace in Brooklyn Heights, and one exterior of the house taken from the Wall Street Ferry; and exteriors and interiors of Litchfield's house at 8 East 65th Street in Manhattan. Litchfield's collection of art and armor can be seen in these pictures. Also pictured are interiors and exteriors of Edwin Clark Litchfield's house "Grace Hill" (built 1855-1857, Alexander J. Davis, architect), near Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

Alexander Jackson Davis (1803-1892), the American architect, started working as a draftsman for Josiah C. Brady and Ithiel Town in New York City. He became Town's partner in 1829 and they collaborated on public structures, including the New York Customs House (1832) and various state capitols.
